Renew Training and Support
Next Renew Training:
On September 26, we will be gathering together for a training entitled “Grief and Loss: Part 1”. This training will be led by Dr. Matt Hiveley. Dr. Hiveley is the Mental Health Counselor at Des Moines University with a background in family therapy. Part 2 of the Training will occur on October 17th.
Throughout our lives we have all experienced physical pain and injury. When we’ve experienced these injuries we also accept that there is a healing process involved that is normal and necessary in order for us to be able to effectively return to our everyday responsibilities. Not grieving is equivalent to not allowing your body to heal after major physical trauma or injury. Similar to other emotional difficulties in life, though, we tend to minimize the importance of the grieving process and this can result in anger, bitterness, resentment, depression, and anxiety that can negatively impact one’s life. The purpose of this workshop is to help participants understand the grieving process and how to help children, adolescents, and adults heal emotionally from loss in a healthy manner.
This training will be held in the Equipping Room at Cornerstone and will be worth 1.5 continuing education credits for foster parents. If you plan to join us, please RSVP here by September 20!
Renew is a monthly group dedicated to the training and support of foster/adoptive families. We bring in guest speakers to walk us through issues common to the world of adoption and foster care, and try to set aside some time within those to collaborate with fellow parents. Plus, these classes are usually licensed for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit.
We get together on Thursday evenings from 6:15-7:45p . Childcare IS available these evenings to those who register for care by the Friday preceding the training.
